Rabat, Jan 28, 2010 (SPS) – The Sahrawi political detainee, Dekja Lashgar, was temporarily released, after spending three months and 20 days in the Sale military prison along with 6 other Sahrawi human rights activists, according to sources of the Ministry of the Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad.
The Ministry said "the Moroccan authorities released at noon Ms. Lashgar after her condition has become critical" in the light of the international demand to protect human rights in Western Sahara, highlighting "the appeals of various international bodies such as Human Rights Watch and Front Line.
The Polisario Front has repeatedly demanded that the United Nations and UN Security Council put pressure and sanctions on Morocco to respect human rights, in particular the right to self-determination, release of detainees and make known the whereabouts of more than 500 unaccounted for in the Moroccan prisons.
The Polisario Front called for putting an end to the repression of the Moroccan units scattered in the neighbourhoods and alleys in the Sahrawi occupied cities, allowing freedom of movement and expression and the foreign observers and international press to access the territory as well as a mechanism for human rights monitoring and reporting about it.
The ministry demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners and put an end to political arrests and massive violations of human rights committed by the Moroccan State against the Saharawi civilians. (SPS)
